Your cake has been carefully created just for your celebration! A little TLC between pickup and serving will help keep it looking beautiful and tasting delicious. Follow these simple tips from Sugar & Slice Bakery to give your cake the care it deserves.
Keep It CoolFlorida and buttercream are not always the best of friends! Keep your cake cool and away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
Turn Up the A/CBefore picking up your cake, cool your vehicle. A comfortable, air-conditioned car helps protect the frosting and decorations during the trip.
Keep It FlatPlace your cake on a clean, flat, level surface in your vehicle. The floor or cargo area is generally more stable than a car seat, which may slope and cause the cake to shift.
Drive Like You Have Cake on Board!Take turns slowly, allow extra room for stopping, and avoid sudden starts and stops. Your cake will thank you!
Never Leave Your Cake in a Parked VehicleEven for a few minutes, Florida temperatures can rise quickly inside a vehicle and damage your cake.
Once you arrive at your destination, carefully move the cake to a cool, secure location.
Depending on the cake, filling, frosting, and decorations, refrigeration may be recommended. Please follow any specific storage instructions provided by Sugar & Slice Bakery when you pick up your cake.
Keep your cake away from direct sunlight, windows, warm appliances, outdoor heat, and areas with high humidity.
If your cake has been refrigerated, allow appropriate time before serving so the cake and frosting can reach the recommended serving temperature.
Before cutting, take a moment to look for decorations that should be removed. Depending on the design, your cake may contain toppers, picks, flowers, supports, dowels, or other decorative or structural elements that are not edible.
Carefully remove these items before cutting and serving.
For tiered cakes, separate the tiers and remove any internal supports or cake boards as you work your way through the cake.
How to Cut Your CakeBeautiful cake deserves beautiful slices!
For the cleanest cuts, use a long, sharp knife. Have a clean towel nearby so you can wipe the blade between cuts.
For Smaller Round CakesTraditional wedge-shaped slices work well for smaller cakes. Cut from the center toward the outside edge, keeping portions consistent as you work around the cake.
For Larger Round CakesFor more servings, especially with larger celebration cakes, try the straight-cut method:
- Cut a straight line across the cake approximately 2 inches from the outside edge.
- Cut that section into individual slices.
- Move approximately another 2 inches inward and make another straight cut.
- Continue cutting sections and portioning them into slices until you reach the center.
This method makes it easier to create consistent portions and can provide more servings than cutting large wedges.
For Square or Rectangular CakesCut the cake into straight rows, then cut across those rows to create evenly sized pieces. Adjust the size of each serving based on the number of guests.
Use a sharp knife. A dull knife can drag through the frosting and create uneven slices.
Wipe between cuts. Cleaning the knife between slices helps keep every piece looking picture-perfect.
Plan your serving size. Smaller party portions allow you to serve more guests, while larger dessert portions are perfect when cake is the star of the show.
Save a slice! After all the planning, decorating, celebrating, and sharing, make sure you save a piece for yourself!Every Sugar & Slice creation is unique, and some cakes may require special handling because of their size, design, filling, frosting, or decorations.
